- To acquire knowledge on the taxonomic status of various animals and its relationship to man and to maintain ecological balance
- To bring about awareness of health related problems, its prevention and cure.
- To prepare students towards Self-Employment by teaching Self sustainable Skills and Laboratory Techniques
History:
- Established in the year 1964
- Started as composite department offering intermediate(Bi.P.C) and B.Sc with B.Z.C combination.
- In the year 1998 ,college was bifurcated ,various restructured courses are introduced along with the B.Sc (B.Z.C)conventional course.

Achievements
Student Achievements:
Many students of the Department reached heights in their professions. Number of students achieved good ranks in the V.S.U.CET and S.V.U CET and other P.G Entrance Examination. Placement record of the past students is maintained.
Some of our outgoing U.G students joined P.G Zoology in the same department.

V.Surekha of 3rd B.sc student got Pratibha award 2014 given by Govt of A.P for her excellence in final degree Examinations.

D. Anusha got appreciation along cash prize by Rotary club for her excellence in final exams.

G.Venkataramanamma got 1st prize in Essay writing competition in Yuvatharangalu conducted by C.C.E.

Our students P.Mounika and D.Sahithi bagged second prize in District level Science Exhibition conducted by C.C.E.

- Well maintained and constantly updated laboratories having laminar flow chamber, Trinoculor microscopes Electrophoresis unit, Spectrophotometer, Incubator, Sensitive digital weighing balance, Autoclave, Electronic Balance, pH meter etc.,
- Cordial relationship between teachers and students
Extra Curricular Activities
- To supplement the theory knowledge, the department plans and organises zoological tours and field trips of Zoological importance.
- Regular visits to Hatchery units, Bird Sanctuaries and Estuaries are conducted.
- Faculty members use different AV aids like OHPS, PPTS, CDS, YOUTUBE videos to enable students for better understanding of the subject.
National Seminars
- Two day National Seminar was conducted on 4th&5th January 2010 on “SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT-FOR BETTER TOMORROW".
- U.G.C. Sponsored Two day National Seminar was conducted on 31st July and 1st August 2014 on "IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON FOOD, WATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL SECURITY".
- APSCHE sponsored Two day National Seminar was conducted on 4th and 5th November 2016 on "ROLE OF EDUCATION IN HUMAN DEV ELOPMENT".
- U.G.C sponsored Two day National Seminar was conducted on 15th and 16th september 2017 on "BIOETHICS FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM".
Research Activities
Dr.Y.Dayakar, former Reader in Zoology has guided the following:
- Studies on Physico- Chemical Parameters of Nellore Fresh water tank- A Preliminary survey done by Smt S.K Parveen- submitted for M.phil to S.V.U - AWARDED 2010.
- Studies on vitellogenesis in the Paddy field crab Oziotelphusa senex senex ( fabricus ) during the ovarian cycle Done by Smt B.V. Sai Sireesha – submitted for M.phil to S.V.U....awarded May 2011.
- Comparative study of Induced Effect of Estradiol and 17- alpha hydroxy Progesterone on Ovarian growth and Vitellogenesis in the Fresh water Paddy filed crab Oziotelphusa senex senex Done by Kum A.Sujathamma, submitted for M.phil to S.V.U, Awarded 2012.
- Role of different feeds on growth of 2 edible craps Catla and Labeo rohita with reference to selected Metabolic Immunological and Histopathological Studies done by Smt G.Usha Kiran , Submitted for Ph.D to S.V.U ...Awarded 2012
Minor Research Projects Completed
- Comparative study of Periphyton diversity on added substrata Ipomoea branches in small fish ponds and water storage tanks and their effect on water quality by Smt V. Kezia laxmi bai, lecturer in zoology-2011-12.
- Ecological studies in the Nellore Fresh Water Tank- with reference to the Seasonal distribution of physicochemical parameters and relative abundance of plank tonic forms, an index of biological productivity- By Dr. Y. Dayakar, Reader in Zoology- 2012-2014.
Co-Curricular Activities
Students are encouraged to participate in various activities to bring out inner talents and to exhale in various co-curricular activities like student seminars, model making, study projects, science fairs etc.,
Admissions
Students Admissions Profile
In this academic year 50 students are admitted for B.Z.C and 16 students are admitted for Biotech.z.c 20 students are admitted for Aquaculture. Z.C.
Currently there are around 175 students pursuing their undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the department.
Teacher to student Ratio at present is 1:35
Result Analysis
Our Zoology Department is getting excellent academic results with consistent percentage of above 95%
