UGC, Autonomy & CPE

D.K. Govt. College for Women, Nellore was established in the year 1964. It was the only Govt. College for women in the district catering to the educational needs of the women students. Countless women students from different socio-economic backgrounds have been educated and well settled in and around the world. The spacious class rooms, well equipped laboratories and library with e-learning facility and 3 hostel blocks with a beautiful play ground provide a better means to import qualitative education and develop all round skills of the students.

The college has been recognized under 2f 12(b) of the University Grants Commission on 17-09-1972 and since then has been receiving funds regularly. In the XI plan the important funding came in the form of 90 lakh funding for the construction of women’s hostel. In the XII plan an amount of Rs. 30 Lakhs has been received as plan Block Grant, IQAC grant and Major and Minor research project grants. With the financial assistance from the UGC 17 major/minor research projects are taken up and submitted to the UGC from the time when constituent colleges are given chance for research along with the faculty in the Universities. Two faculty members are selected for FDP by the UGC

With all its credentials the college was accorded the status of Autonomy by the UGC, New Delhi in 2016 for a period of 5years. It is the only Govt. College in the district receiving this status. During this first cycle of Autonomy the college has got the liberty to change 20% of the syllabus prescribed by the University and can introduce new courses keeping the emerging needs of the society. Accordingly Boards of Studies for various subjects and Academic Council are formed as per the norms laid down by the UGC and Syllabus is approved in the BOS meetings as well as the Academic Council too. The College follows the CBCS pattern introduced by the UGC..

An added feather in  the cap of the D.K.W College is that the college is identified and approved as  College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) status from the UGC, New Delhi for a period of 5 years from 2016 to 2022 . It is a notable achievement, a remarkable event and a memorable milestone in the history of D.K. Govt. College for Women, Nellore.
