About the College: D.K.Govt. Degree College for Women (A) was established in the year 1964 and is the only Government College for Women in the entire district catering to the educational needs of women. Situated in a sprawling campus of 25 acres the college attracts with beautiful and spacious building, housing administrative office, various departments, well equipped class rooms, laboratories, auditorium, hostel and a large play ground. This is the only Govt. College which underwent accreditation for the first time and is reaccredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC. The college has acquired Autonomous and CPE status in the year 2016.
The College is recognized as district nodal center. The College is offering all degree courses (conventional and restructured courses) and PG courses in Zoology, English and Telugu including research programmes. The College offers Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University Degree Courses and Certificate Courses of Indira Gandhi National Open University through distant mode.
Through its Vission and Mission “yavidyasavimukti” the college is committed to impart qualitative knowledge and develop all round skills of women students keeping in view of the latest technological advancements.

This is the 1st green field Port in Nellore District and it was privatized in 1997. Iron ore cargo is available from Hospet Bellary region for export through Krishnapatnam Port. 3 Berths are under construction along with other associated facilities and infrastructure facilities.
PLACES OF TOURIST INTEREST:
There are considerable number of tourist places in the district for which tourists and pilgrims are being fascinated to visit there either annually or on special occasions where festivities usually take place. The significance and historical importance of these places are briefly narrated hereunder.
RanganadhaSwamy Temple:
known as Ranganayukulu, is situated on the southern bank of the River Penna at Nellore. It has a phenomenal Galigopuram with 29Mts. height with seven gold kalasams. AddalaMandapam Mirrors are there to reflect hundreds of images of of Lord Krishna and this presents a panoramic view.
Bara Shaheed Dargah:
It is located just adjacent to the college premices. "Bara Shaheed Dargah" literally reads "Shrine of twelve martyrs" in Urdu. Dargahis on the bank of Nellore water tank/lake, and has eid-gah, tourist resort and park next to it. Dargah is known for annual festival of RotiyaankiEid/RottelaPanduga in the month of muharram in hijri and attracts followers from across the country and abroad.
Penchalakona:
It is about 8 Kms from Gonupalli village of Rapurmandal. There is a famous temple of PenusilaNarasimhaSwamy where annual festival is takies place during April-May.
Narasimhakonda:
It is 8 Kms away from Nellore town. VedagiriNarasimhaSwamy is dwelling on the hill. Brahmotsavam is being celebrated with traditional geity in the month of May.
Jonnawada:
There is Kamakshi Tai temple near Buchi. Women devotees frequent the temple almost daily.
Kasumuru:
There is MastanvaliDarga in this village where “Urusu” festival is being celebrated splendidly by local Muslims and foreigners. A.S.Pet: An ancient Mosque is there at a distance of 11 Kms from Atmakur. Annually “Urusu” is being celebrated magnificently in the name of KhajarahamuthullaNayabRasool with the people hailing from across the country.
Mypadu:
It is a famous summer resort situated at a distance of 22kms from Nellore.
Somasila:
There is SomasilaAnicut on Pennarriver between Veligonda hills. A famous Sivalayam temple is also there.
Pulicat Lake:
It is covered between the villages of Koridi and Pantrangam along 12 Kms. Different varieties of birds come from distant places in the month of November.
Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary:
It is in Doravarisatrammandal. The birds sanctuary celebrates “Flemingo” festival for 3 days in the month of February. Migratory birds of different species gather at the Lake from October to March for breeding.
SHAR:
Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) or Sriharikota Range (SHAR)is a rocket launch centre operated by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It is located in Sriharikota (120km from Nellore). It is internationally famous. It is an added advantage to the city for its growth and development.
